The Red Storm will start its 2024-25 season on Sunday
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's and women's fencing team will open the 2024-25 campaign when it travels to Manhattan for the NYU Invitational at the John A. Paulson Center on Sunday.
The competition will begin at 11:15 a.m. when the Red Storm squares off with Wagner. Next, the Johnnies will hit the strips against NYU at 12:30 p.m. before wrapping up the competition with LIU at 1:45 p.m. Results from the event will be posted at its conclusion on RedStormSports.com.
This marks the first time St. John's has competed at the NYU Invitational since the 2016-17 season when both the men and women finished with an even 2-2 record. Ben Natanzon tallied 10 victories on the men's side, while Ally Ryf led the charge for the women with an 11-1 record.
Last season, St. John's finished seventh at the NCAA Championships for the third consecutive year. The Red Storm returns its top two finishers from last year's championships – Julia Cieslar and Nicole Feygin. Cieslar is set to begin her final season in Queens after competing to a second-place finish in the women's saber. Feygin capped a spectacular freshman season by battling toward third place in the women's epee. The men's team welcomes five new freshmen, with the remaining nine fencers being sophomores.
