Fencing Dominates at NYU Invitational

Both the men and women finish undefeated at the first competition of the year
NEW YORK – The St. John's men's and women's fencing teams dominated at the NYU Invitational, finishing with perfect 3-0 records against LIU, NYU and Wagner on Sunday.
Five Johnnies posted an undefeated individual record, going 9-0 on the afternoon.
Freshman Darii Lukashenko made the most of his first competition as a Johnnie, competing to a 9-0 finish in the men's saber while fellow freshman Vlad Covaliu was not far behind with an 8-1 mark. In the men's foil, Igor Wozniak led the way with a 9-0 finish, and in the men's epee, Samuel Imrek topped the category with a 7-2 record.
On the women's side, Julia Cieslar started her senior campaign with a 9-0 record in the women's saber with Catinca Dumitru right behind her at 8-1. Malwina Kolodziejczyk dominated the women's foil, posting a 9-0 mark while Nicole Feygin went undefeated in the the women's epee.
St. John's will be back in action on Dec. 8 when it heads to Waltham, Mass., to compete in the Brandeis Invitational.
