St. John’s Mourns the Passing of Gene Krzyk (McCloskey)

The former Johnnie passed away on Friday at the age of 73
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's baseball team, along with the entire athletic department and university family, mourns the passing of Gene Krzyk (McCloskey).
The former Johnnie played four seasons (1970-73) in Queens under the late Hall of Famer and St. John's patriarch Jack Kaiser. The shortstop made 90 appearances for the Johnnies, accumulating 93 hits during his tenure. McCloskey also chipped in 61 runs and 44 RBIs.
He also spent a pair of summer seasons playing in the Cape Cod League for the Wareham Gatemen in 1971 and 1972. McCloskey also played for the men's basketball team at St. John's on the freshmen squad during the 1969-70 season, averaging 7.3 points on 44.4 percent shooting and 2.6 rebounds per game in 22 appearances.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium Atkins-Lodge Chapel in Lewes, Del. Visitation for friends will begin at 10:00 a.m.
