St. John’s Tied for Sixth After Day One of Vanharte Orange County Collegiate Classic

Peicheng Chen tied for tournament lead with 12 birdies
DANA POINT, Calif. – The St. John's men's golf team sits tied for sixth place after the opening day of the Vanharte Orange County Collegiate Classic.
The Red Storm shot 11-over as a team before play on the final holes of the second round was suspended due to darkness. The Johnnies have shot 2-over as a team in the second round.
Peicheng Chen is tied for the tournament lead with 12 birdies at Monarch Beach Golf Links and paces the squad in 11th place at 2-under for the tournament after completing the first 36 holes. In the opening round, the junior shot a 2-under, 68, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole. In the following round, the Beijing, China native recorded six birdies and finished with an even par, 70.
Freshman standout Thomas Finn is firing on all cylinders in the second round and is currently 3-under to get back to even par with the 18th hole left to play in his latter round. The Locust Valley, N.Y., native has flushed six birdies putts in the second round and nine overall in the tournament to take 21st place heading into tomorrow.
David Mlynek registered an impressive second round carding a 1-under, 69. The Manhattan transfer currently checks in at 2-over for the event and is tied for 29th place.
The second round will conclude tomorrow starting at 10:15 a.m. ET with six groups left to finish. The third and final round from California will begin at 11:30 a.m. ET. Live results will be available on GolfStat.
