Red Storm associate head coach was chosen for educational program for aspiring head coaches
ATLANTA – St. John's Women's Basketball Associate Head Coach & Recruiting Coordinator Candice Hill was selected to participate in the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association's (WBCA) Next Generation Institute, the organization announced on Tuesday morning.
32 of the brightest assistant coaches from across the country and NCAA Division I, II and III were chosen to participate in the high-level educational program aimed to prepare them as spiring head coaches.
The institute will be held in Cleveland, Ohio on April 4-7 in conjunction with the 2024 NCAA Women's Final Four.
The program is geared towards teaching selected individuals about leadership and problem-solving tactics in today's ever-changing landscape of collegiate athletics.
Hill, currently in her third season in Queens has made a profound impact on the program. Working primarily with the guard unit, Hill has mentored three All-BIG EAST selections at the position in two completed seasons and the position group recorded 72.7 percent of the scoring production on last year's NCAA Tournament team that went 23-9 and was nationally-ranked after a 13-0 start.
The Baltimore, Md., native was played an integral role in the development of Unique Drake. After winning the BIG EAST Sixth-Woman of the Year award in 2023, the guard has increased her previous career-best season scoring average by double-digits this season logging 19.0 points per contest, which ranks third in the BIG EAST.
In addition to her role in on-court coaching, Hill spearheads the program's recruiting efforts coordinating player evaluation and on-campus visits for the Red Storm.
Hill boasts over a decade of coach experience and has made previous stops her alma mater Loyola Maryland, UMass and Wilmington.
A former player, she played at Loyola Maryland from 2007-12 and was selected to the All-MAAC Rookie Team her freshman season.
Hill has been previously recognized by the WBCA after being named to the organization's "Thirty Under 30" list in 2020 and the "So You Wanna Be a Coach" program in 2012 and was tabbed a "Next Up" Finalist by the Rising Coaches Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Alliance in October 2022.
