Red Storm continues West Coast swing with three midweek games
LA JOLLA, Calif. – The St. John's softball team (5-6) continues its West Coast trip with a doubleheader against UC San Diego (1-10) on Tuesday and a matchup with UC Riverside (3-9) on Wednesday.
The first pitch with the Triton is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET with game two slated for a 6 p.m. ET start. On Wednesday, the Johnnies and Highlanders are set to square off at 5 p.m. ET.
Both games against UC San Diego will be broadcast on ESPN+. Live stats for all three games are available on RedStormSports.com.
The Red Storm enters the contest winners of five of its last six games after downing Northern Colorado, 4-2, on Sunday. St. John's took down the Bears on the campus of UC Santa Barbara to open up its California trip with a victory.
Loreley Francia followed up her BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll nod with a career day inside of the circle. The sophomore pitcher racked up a career-best 14 strikeouts while surrendering just two runs on eight hits and two walks for her second complete game of the season. Francia now has a 2.85 ERA across a team-high 27 innings of work with 32 strikeouts.
Cassidy Stouffer did not waste any time extending her hitting streak to nine games against Northern Colorado. The Miami, Fla. native drilled an RBI double into left-center during the first inning to continue her streak. Stouffer has recorded a hit in every game she has received an at-bat in this season and is slashing .462 / .500 / .615.
Jess Bianco helped spark the St. John's offense against Northern Colorado, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. The lead-off hitter has continued to be a force on the base paths this season, going 11-for-12 in stolen base attempts after finishing last year with the second-best single-season program mark of 43.
UC San Diego currently sits at 1-10 on the season, recording a lone win against FDU.
Freshman Lexi O'Gorman was named Big West Freshman Player of the Week after an opening weekend batting .400 with five RBIs and eight total bases. The outfielder leads the Tritons with a .400 average, 14 hits and six RBIs.
St. John's and UC San Diego will meet for the first time on Tuesday.
UC Riverside enters Wednesday's contest with a 3-9 mark in 2024. The Highlanders have picked up wins against Portland State, Kansas and California Baptist so far this season.
