Red Storm will compete for the first time in 2024 starting on Monday
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's golf team returns to action for the first time in 2024 to compete in the two-day BIG EAST Match Play event starting on Monday.
The Red Storm will join seven other BIG EAST squads at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla. In a single-elimination bracket. The Johnnies will play their first match against Creighton to kick-off the tournament. St. John's will play its second match against either Butler or UConn before playing its final match on Tuesday.
Live results will be available on GolfStat throughout the two-day competition.
The 2023 BIG EAST Championship runner-ups competed in four competitions in the fall and finished fifth in the Xavier Invitational, its final event of autumn. Emerging freshman Thomas Finn had the squad's best finish in the last two events of the year and came in 23rd in Cincinnati.
In last year's BIG EAST Match Play event, the Red Storm finished tied for second after accumulating 9.5 points over three matches. Peicheng Chen won all three of his individual matches in the 2023 edition of the competition.
This week's match play event marks the first of seven tournaments this spring under second-year Head Coach Phil Wildermuth, culminating with the BIG EAST Championships in late April.
