Red Storm won its final contest at conference’s match play event at Bear Lakes Country Club
WEST PALM BEACH Fla.– The St. John's men's golf team won its final match over Villanova, 4-3, at BIG EAST Match Play in Florida.
The Red Storm won four of its seven matches on Tuesday at Bear Lakes Country Club to earn a narrow victory over the Wildcats in their third and final contest at the conference event.
Freshman Thomas Finn battled with two-time All-BIG EAST selection Peter Weaver and came out on top taking a two-hole advantage and closing out the contest with one left to play.
Peicheng Chen tallied his second win over the three matches in West Palm Beach. The junior took a three-hole lead after winning the eighth hole and closing out the match to earn a point for the Johnnies.
Fellow veteran Ryan Rittberger also finished out a three-hole win with one left to play over the Wildcats' Joshua Lavely.
Manhattan transfer David Mlynek was the fourth and final Red Storm player to aid in the victory at Bear Lakes. The sophomore led wire-to-wire and ended up two holes ahead of his opponent with one remaining.

The Red Storm will go back to stroke play competition next week when it completes Orange County Collegiate Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton from Feb. 12-13.
