The Red Storm will welcome the Jaspers to Queens for two games on Wednesday
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team (9-12) is set to play a doubleheader against the Manhattan Jaspers (2-14) on Wednesday.
Originally, the two teams were set to play a single contest but now will play two games starting at 1 p.m. followed by game two at 3 p.m.
Both games will be broadcast on FloSports with Live Stats available on RedStormSports.com. Admission at Red Storm Field is free for all fans.
St. John's opened BIG EAST play last weekend against Creighton, winning one of three. The Red Storm dropped the opening two games of the series before an offensive explosion propelled the Johnnies to a 10-0 win in five innings during the series finale on Saturday.
London Jarrard secured her second consecutive nod to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll following the Creighton series. The shortstop finished the weekend 4-for-9 (.444) with two runs scored, five RBIs, a double, a stolen base and a walk. Jarrard extended her conference-best RBI total to 26 and leads the Red Storm slashing .333 /.410 /.638 to go along with four home runs, seven doubles and a triple.
Sophomore Ana Serafinko was terrific in the circle against the Bluejays. In two starts, the southpaw tossed 12 innings, allowing only three runs on seven hits while recording 12 punchouts. In the series finale, Serafinko took a no-hit bid into the fifth and final inning of St. John's 10-0 victory.
Outfielder Elanna Lysiak delivered her first career home run grandly with a grand slam during the series finale on Saturday. The Wheatfield, N.Y., product launched the round-tripper to cap an eight-run Red Storm fourth inning and help end the game after five due to the run-ahead rule.
Manhattan enters Wednesday with a 2-14 mark to start 2024, recording wins against Northern Colorado and Sacred Heart. The Jaspers recently competed in the Spring Games held in Madeira Beach, Fla., competing to a 1-5 record across the weekend. 2023 All-MAAC Rookie Team Selection Sophia Kiseloski sits atop Manhattan's pitching staff with a 5.01 ERA in 22.1 innings pitched this season.
St. John's holds an all-time record of 16-12-1 against Manhattan. Last year, the two programs met on April 26 with the Jaspers coming out on top, 7-2, despite a two-RBI triple by Sydney Totarsky.
After Wednesday, the Red Storm will look ahead to the second BIG EAST series of 2024, when it welcomes Butler to Queens. The first pitch of the series is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday.
