The Red Storm will continue BIG EAST play in the Windy City
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team (16-16, 5-4) is set to continue BIG EAST play against DePaul (7-20, 2-4) for a three-game series in the Windy City.
Game one is slated for a 3:30 p.m. ET start on Thursday followed by the first pitch of game two at 2 p.m. ET on Friday. The series finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Saturday.
The entire three-game set will be broadcast on FloSports with Live Stats available on RedStormSports.com.
The series will conclude the Red Storm's seven-game road trip. On Tuesday, St. John's blanked Iona, 5-0, behind a one-hit, 10-strikeout performance by Loreley Francia. The Johnnies kicked off their time on the road in Providence with a three-game series. St. John's won game one, 3-2, in nine innings before dropping the final two games of the series to the Friars.
Francia leads the Red Storm pitching staff that has had an impressive start to the 2024 campaign. The Spring, Texas product leads St. John's in ERA (2.28), innings pitched (79.2) and punchouts (89). Alongside Francia, Ana Serafinko, Hannah Mearns and Carolina Zamudio have helped to combine for a team ERA of 2.56 which is currently the lowest in the BIG EAST.
Shortstop London Jarrard earned her third nod in March to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after going 8-for-16 in five contests against Wagner and Providence. Jarrard's third honor in a single month marked the first player to do so since 2018. The junior is currently slashing .349/.415/.623 to go along with a team-leading five home runs and 33 RBIs.
Jess Bianco continued to be the spark of the Red Storm offense against Iona, going 3-for-4 from the lead-off spot. The centerfielder leads the squad with a .358 batting average, 26 runs scored and 17 stolen bases in 2024.
Against Iona, Sydney Totarsky returned to the lineup after a four-game absence and crushed her first home run of the season. St. John's now has 17 long balls by nine different players this year.
The Blue Demons enter the weekend with a 7-20 overall record and a 2-4 mark in conference play. DePaul recently took down Northern Illinois, 17-5, in five innings after dropping a midweek contest to Northwestern and three games to conference foe UConn.
Brooke Johnson leads DePaul with a .436 batting average, eight home runs and 18 RBIs. The graduate student was awarded BIG EAST Player of the Week on February 26 after hitting .588 with eight runs and six RBIs over a five-game stretch.
DePaul holds the all-time advantage over St. John's, winning 37 of 46 meetings between the two programs. However, the Red Storm took two of three games against the Blue Demons last season for the first time since 2016.
After the two team's regular season series, they met again in the 2023 BIG EAST Tournament where DePaul prevailed, 8-4, despite a St. John's 10-hit performance including a pair of home runs by Katie Whittaker and Peyton Cody.
The Johnnies will return to Queens after their trip to the Midwest for a contest against Fordham on April 3 at 3 p.m.
