Peicheng Chen looks to defend individual title at the Falls Club
QUEENS, N.Y– The St. John's men's golf team will head down to Florida for the Southern Invitational on April 1-2.
The Red Storm will play in the three-round 54-hole tournament at the Falls Club, a par-71 6,715-yard course located in Lake Worth, Fla.
The Red Storm will compete in an eight team field against Binghamton, Canisius, Florida Atlantic, Holy Cross, Niagara and North Carolina A&T. The line-up will feature Peicheng Chen, Thomas Finn, Ryan Rittberger, David Mlynek and Erik Stevens. Jack Breutsch will compete as an individual.
Last year at this event, the Johnnies tallied a second place shooting a 1-over par as a team and Chen captured the individual title carding a career-low 10-under to take home his second medalist honor of the 2022-23 season.
St. John's has had a few weeks off and last competed on March 12 at the Ross Intercollegiate in Southern Pines, N.C. The squad recorded an eighth place finish in the 15 school field at the Mid Pines Club. Chen once again paced the squad with a 16th place finish and carded a 1-over, 217, for the tournament.
The squad will tee off on Monday morning for a 36-hole day and finish out the final round the following day. Live results will be available throughout the entire tournament on GolfStat.
