The St. John's women's tennis team will return home on Friday for the first time since Feb. 9 to face Monmouth before taking on Brown on Saturday in Providence, R.I. Both matches are set to begin at noon.
The Red Storm (4-4) is coming off a five-match road trip, most recently earning a come-from-behind victory against UNC Wilmington last Friday, 4-3. The Johnnies came back from being down 3-0 against the Seahawks, highlighted by a match-clinching performance on the No. 1 singles court by Mouna Bouzgarrou, who took down Eda Arli in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3).
Nicoline Sartz-Lunde, Noemi Babikova and Alicia Gómez each picked up singles wins for St. John's against UNCW.
Gómez leads the Red Storm in singles play this year with a 4-1 record. Bouzgarrou, Babikova and Sartz-Lunde each have three wins in singles action this season.
St. John's and Monmouth met for the first time last season on Feb. 5, 2023, in Little Silver, N.J. The Johnnies earned a dominate 7-0 decision over the Hawks behind wins in both singles and doubles play from Bouzgarrou, Camila Ordonez and Willa Bay Breunich.
Monmouth enters Friday's match 1-7 on the season and 0-2 in CAA play. The Hawks are coming off a 7-0 defeat against Delaware on Sunday for their seventh straight loss. Friday will be the second of five-straight road contests for Monmouth.
The Red Storm will face Brown on Saturday for the fifth time in program history. When the two schools last squared off on Feb. 23, 2020, the Bears earned a 5-2 win over the Johnnies.
Brown is 5-5 in 2024 and is fresh off a 5-2 victory over Boston University on Sunday.
Following the pair of matches this weekend, the Red Storm will return to Queens to begin BIG EAST play next Thursday against Seton Hall. First serve from the USTA National Tennis Center is set for 11:45 a.m.
