St. John’s Earns 4-1 Victory Over Hofstra on Senior Day

The Red Storm will wrap up regular season play on Sunday against Villanova
The St. John's women's tennis team defeated Hofstra, 4-1, on Friday.
The Red Storm (7-7, 0-2 BIG EAST) picked up the team doubles point and won three singles matches to claim victory at the USTA National Tennis Center.
Noemi Babikova and Alicia Gomez kicked off doubles play for the Johnnies, earning a convincing 6-1 decision over Sabrin Mohamed and Kaitlyn Ferguson on the No. 2 court. The team point was clinched on the No. 1 court when Mouna Bouzgarrou and Arina Gumerova improved to 5-1 as a pair this season, knocking off Lea Forste-Dinell and Deniz Soyer, 6-4.
In singles play, the Pride tied the match at 1-1 on the No. 6 court, but a dominant 6-1, 6-1 performance by Nicoline Sartz-Lunde over Soyer on the No. 3 court regained the lead for the Red Storm, 2-1. Sartz-Lunde has won three straight matches and is 7-2 overall this season.
The lead was pushed to 3-1 on the No. 5 court when Gomez picked up her second win in a row, taking down Ava Veneziano in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Gumerova clinched the victory for St. John's, downing Ferguson on the No. 2 court, 6-4, 6-1.
With the win, the Johnnies improve to 5-0 all-time against Hofstra. The Pride fall to 6-10 this season with the loss.
The Johnnies will wrap up its regular season slate on Sunday with a BIG EAST contest against Villanova. First serve from the Villanova Tennis Complex in Villanova, Pa., is set for 11 a.m.
The Wildcats are coming off a 5-2 victory over Seton Hall this past Tuesday. Villanova is 9-10 this season and 4-2 in conference play. Before facing off with the Johnnies on Sunday, the Wildcats will visit Georgetown on Friday evening.
Sunday will mark the 16th meeting between the two programs. The Red Storm hold a 14-2 advantage in the all-time series and has won two straight in the series. When the schools last squared off on Feb 24, 2023, St. John's picked up a 7-0 sweep over its rivals from Pennsylvania.
