Chen shoots 4-under during the final round
BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. – The St. John's men's golf team shot just 4-over in the final round of the Mountaineer Invitational on Tuesday.
The Red Storm finished in 11th place out of 16 teams after shooting 41-over, 905, through 54 holes at the Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, W. Va. The Johnnies progressed with each round and shot their best round of the tournament logging a 4-over, 292. St. John's sunk 13 birdie putts during the final round.
As a team, the Red Storm shot a stroke average of 3.33 on the par-3's, which ranked third-best amongst the tournament field.
Peicheng Chen had the most impressive round of the by a Red Storm golfer recording five birdies shooting 4-under, 68, on Tuesday. The junior shot up 29 spots on the leaderboard to take 39th place finishing the event at 9-over, 225.
David Mlynek remained consistent shooting a 4-over, 76, for the third consecutive round. The sophomore ended the tournament at 12-over, 228 which put him tied for 45th place.
Both Thomas Finn and Erik Stevens registered a 2-over, 72, and logged three birdies during the final round of competition.
St. John's will have a quick turnaround as it prepares for the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate this week on April 19-21 at Ohio State.
