St. John’s Closes First Round at Robert Kepler Intercollegiate

COLUMBUS, Ohio– The St. John's men's golf team concluded its first round of play of the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate.
The Red Storm shot a 21-over, 305 and sit in 17th place at the challenging Ohio State Golf Club Scarlet Course. All 18 teams shot over par on the difficult 7,455-yard par-71 track and first and last place are separated by just 19 strokes.
Peicheng Chen continues to be solid for Head Coach Phil Wildermuth's squad, recording a team-low 3-over, 74, in Columbus. The junior was steady knocking home a team-high 13 pars and a birdie on the 618-yard par-5 6th hole. With only nine golfers under par in the 99-player field, Chen currently sits tied for 32nd place.
Freshman phenom Thomas Finn registered a team-high two birdies and carded a 5-over, 76 for the day. Ryan Rittberger (+6, 77), Erik Stevens (+7, 78) and David Mlynek (+8, 79) filed in right behind Finn to round out the Red Storm line-up.
The Johnnies will hit the course again tomorrow for the second round before closing out the tournament on Sunday. Live results will be available throughout the entire tournament on GolfStat.
