The Red Storm will wrap up its 10-game road swing with two games against the Knights
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team (23-23, 12-9) will conclude its 10-game road swing with a doubleheader at FDU (16-25, 5-13) on Tuesday afternoon.
The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. with game two slated for 3 p.m. or approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opening contest.
Both games will be streamed on NEC Front Row and live stats will be provided on RedStormSports.com.
The Red Storm enter Tuesday after taking two of three games against Georgetown last weekend. The Hoyas won a close opening game, 3-2, before the Johnnies stormed back to claim a 3-1 victory in game two and a 5-0 shutout win in the series finale. Following the weekend, St. John's sits in fourth in the conference at 12-9 with one BIG EAST series remaining on the schedule.
Ana Serafinko continued her breakout sophomore campaign against the Hoyas. In Sunday's contest, Serafinko crushed her fourth home run of the season in the first inning on her way to finishing the contest with a career-high three hits. The two-way standout also drew the start in the circle, tossing her fourth shutout of the year while punching out nine batters across the full seven innings. Serafinko leads the Red Storm pitching staff with a 2.70 ERA in 98.2 innings and her four longballs rank second on the offensive side.
Shortstop London Jarrard carries a five-game hitting streak into Tuesday. The Carlsbad, Calif., native launched her team-leading seventh and eighth round-trippers of the year in the opening two games at Georgetown. Her home runs in back-to-back games marked the second time Jarrard has accomplished the feat in her career and the first time this season a St. John's batter has done so.
Jarrard is currently slashing .336/.406/.612 to go along with a team-high 46 RBIs that is just three away from tying Erin Burner's St. John's single-season record from the 2015 season. The junior has already achieved several career accolades in 2024, reaching the century mark in both hits and RBIs along with being just two doubles shy of setting a new career doubles record at St. John's.
Right-handed pitcher Loreley Francia recorded her team-leading tenth win of the year in Saturday's contest against the Hoyas. The sophomore allowed just one earned run on four hits while striking out eight batters in her ninth complete game of 2024. Francia continues to be a workhorse for the Johnnies, posting a 2.99 ERA with a team-high 121 punchouts in 107.2 innings.
The Knights enter the doubleheader on an eight-game skid after dropping all three games of a series to Sacred Heart last weekend. FDU's 5-13 conference record places the Knights seventh in the NEC.
Freshman pitcher Brooklyn Shroyer racked up both conference and national weekly awards on April 16. Shroyer was awarded NCAA Pitcher of the Week, D1 Softball Freshman of the Week and NEC Pitcher and Player of the Week after tossing 29.1 scoreless innings with 51 strikeouts. The freshman leads FDU with a 1.89 ERA and 201 punchouts in 2024.
St. John's holds the all-time advantage in the series with an 11-2 record against FDU. The Johnnies have won four of the last five meetings against the Knights dating back to 2012.
The two teams last met in 2020 in the final contest before the COVID-19 pandemic ended the season early. The Red Storm prevailed with a 3-2 victory behind a Laura Delgado RBI double.
After Tuesday, St. John's will return home for its final home games and the last BIG EAST series of the year against Seton Hall. The three-game set is slated to start on Friday at 2 p.m. at Red Storm Field.
