QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team (26-25, 13-11) is set to head to West Point for a doubleheader at Army (12-34, 7-8) on Wednesday.
Game one is slated for a 3 p.m. start with the first pitch of game two scheduled for 5 p.m. or approximately 30 minutes after game one concludes.
ESPN+ will broadcast the two contests and live stats will be provided on RedStormSports.com.
The Red Storm enter Wednesday after clinching a berth in the 2024 BIG EAST Tournament following its 4-0 shutout victory against Seton Hall on Sunday. This year's conference tournament appearance marks St. John's 14th in program history and its second in the past two seasons. Last year, the Johnnies took down Butler, 9-6, in their opening game before falling to UConn and DePaul. Providence will play host of this year's tournament that will be held from May 8-11.
Pitcher Ana Serafinko tossed her fifth shutout of the season in the series finale against the Pirates to help the Red Storm clinch a berth in the tournament. The left-hander allowed just six hits while punching out eight batters in her 10th win of the year. Serafinko also did damage in the batter's box, recording a pair of doubles and scoring twice in the win. The two-way standout leads the St. John's pitching staff with a 2.46 ERA and 144 strikeouts while also tallying seven doubles, four home runs and 13 RBIs in the batting lineup.
London Jarrard notched home runs in back-to-back games against Seton Hall for the second consecutive BIG EAST series after accomplishing the feat at Georgetown two weekends ago. The shortstop leads St. John's with a career-high 10 homers this season. In Saturday's contest, the junior hit a lead-off home run on the first pitch she saw to deep right-center. The solo blast helped Jarrard tie Erin Burner's single-season program record of 49 RBIs. Jarrard also sits just two doubles away from etching her name in the record book for the career program record of two-baggers with 46.
In her final home series of her career, Amy Mallah put together one of her best weekends this year, batting .400 with three RBIs across the three-game set with the Pirates. Mallah was key in Sunday's win, hitting a pair of clutch RBI base hits.
Army enters Wednesday with a 12-34 overall record and a 7-8 conference mark. Last weekend, the Black Knights handed Lehigh its first conference loss of the season after splitting a midweek doubleheader with Seton Hall.
Sophomore infielder Ashton White leads Army's lineup, batting .372 with four home runs and 34 RBIs in 2024. Inside the circle, Breanna Izzo tops the pitching staff with a 3.99 ERA in 80.2 innings. Izzo has only started four games this year, working primarily in a reliever role.
St. John's leads the all-time series with a 12-1 mark against Army. The two programs will meet for the first time since 2008 after a 16-year hiatus.
In their last meeting, the Red Storm came out on top, 9-1, in game one before taking game two in shutout fashion, 8-0. Kacee Cox led the way for the Johnnies, going 4-for-6 with a home run and three RBIs between the two contests.
Following Wednesday, St. John's will look ahead to the BIG EAST Tournament that is set to start on May 8 in Providence, R.I.
