St. John’s Prepares to Face Stony Brook and Hofstra

The Red Storm will host the Seawolves on Wednesday and the Pride on Friday
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team will face two Long Island foes this week, hosting Stony Brook on Wednesday and Hofstra on Friday. Both matches are scheduled to take place at the St. John's outdoor courts and will start at 1:45 p.m.
The Red Storm (5-7, 0-2 BIG EAST) is coming off a 4-2 setback against Marquette on Sunday afternoon. Despite a 6-3 victory on the No. 1 doubles court by Mouna Bouzgarrou and Arina Gumerova, Marquette won the team doubles point and picked up three singles matches to clinch the match.
Bouzgarrou earned her fifth singles victory of the year and Nicoline Sartz-Lunde improved to 5-2 this season with a 6-3, 6-3 win on the No. 3 singles court.
Freshman Noemi Babikova has won two straight matches and is 4-1 in her rookie campaign while Alicia Gomez has four wins in singles play.
The Johnnies will take on the Seawolves for the 13th time on Wednesday and have won six of the previous 12 matches. The Red Storm has won five straight against their foes from Suffolk County, including a 4-0 victory in the last meeting on April 16, 2022.
Stony Brook is 2-10 this season and has lost its last five contests. The Seawolves are coming off a 6-1 loss against LIU on March 24.
Friday's matchup with Hofstra will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two programs. The Red Storm has won all four of the previous meetings, including a 7-0 sweep on March 31, 2023, in Queens. Friday will be the first time the two programs have competed at the St. John's Outdoor Courts.
Following this week's pair of matches, the Johnnies will wrap up their regular season slate against Villanova on April 14. First serve from the Villanova Tennis Complex is set for 11 a.m.
