St. John’s Takes Down Stony Brook, 4-2

Mouna Bouzgarrou picked up two wins against the Seawolves
QUEENS, N.Y. (April 10, 2024) – The St. John's women's tennis team defeated Stony Brook, 4-2, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Red Storm (6-7, 0-2 BIG EAST) dropped the team doubles point but won four doubles matches to clinch the victory at the St. John's Outdoor Courts.
On the No. 1 doubles court, Mouna Bouzgarrou and Arina Gumerova improved to 4-1 as a pair, taking down Mia Palladino and Elena Lobo-Corral, 6-2. The Seawolves picked up victories on the No. 2 and 3 courts to take the team point.
The Johnnies evened the score at 1-1 when Nicoline Sartz-Lunde won her seventh singles match of the year, dominating Kristi Boro, 6-0, 6-1. Sartz-Lunde is 4-2 this season in the third singles position.
Alicia Gomez gave St. John's a 2-1 advantage, shutting out Sara Medved, 6-0, 6-0, on the No. 5 court. With the win, Gomez improves to 5-3 in singles play this season. The lead was pushed to 3-1 when Noemi Babikova triumphed over Corne Bruu-Syversen, 7-5, 6-1, in her first appearance of the season in the No. 4 position. The St. John's freshman is 5-1 this season.
Bouzgarrou earned the match-clinching fourth point for the Johnnies when she took down Palladino, 6-1, 6-1 on the No. 1 court. Bouzgarrou has won six singles matches this season, all coming from the first singles position.
With the win, the Red Storm improves to 7-6 all-time against Stony Brook and has won each of the last six meetings. The Seawolves fall to 2-11 this season with the loss.
St. John's will return to action on Friday to face Hofstra. First serve from the St. John's Outdoor Courts is set for 1:45 p.m.
