The Johnnie ranks tied atop the 75-golfer field after recording a 4.00 stroke average (-3) tallying a birdie on all three par 5's.
To start off the tournament, the Beijing, China native made par on six of his first eight holes in Austin. On the final hole of the front nine, Chen launched a rocket down the middle of the fairway on the 605-yard par-5 ninth hole. After getting in close with an iron shot, the junior pinpointed a chip less than two-feet away from the cup to knock home his first birdie of the day.
