Dywer made 96 appearances in three seasons at Miami
QUEENS, N.Y.– Miami transfer Lashae Dwyer has signed with the St. Women's Basketball program Head Coach Joe Tartamella announced on Saturday.
Dwyer will come to Queens after three seasons and 96 appearances with Miami. The combo guard played in two NCAA Tournaments, including a run to the Elite Eight with the Hurricanes in 2023.
"We are very excited about the addition of Lashae to our program," Tartamella said. "Her toughness and competitive mindset fit perfectly. She is dynamic on both ends of the floor and her experience coupled with her winning pedigree will elevate our team."
In 2023-24, Dwyer averaged a career-high 6.7 points per game appearing in all 30 games and making 13 starts. She ranked third on the squad in assists (49) and steals (45). While rotating in and out of the starting line-up, the guard sparked a reserve unit that ranked atop the ACC in bench points per game with 24.1. The Toronto, Canada native scored a season-high 18 points in an upset win over then-No. 4/5 North Carolina State. She also set career-highs in 3-pointers with three against Pittsburgh and in minutes played with 33 in the ACC Tournament against Virginia Tech
During her sophomore season, Dwyer played an integral role in leading Miami to the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament Elite Eight appearance. She played in all 35 games during the Hurricanes historic season adding 5.9 points and 2.7 boards per contest. The 5-foot-6 product posted eight double-figure scoring performances and eclipsed the 20-point mark twice, including a career-high 23-point outing against Florida State on Dec. 21, 2022.
In her rookie season in Coral Gables, Fla., she appeared in 30 contests as Miami posted a 21-13 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round during the 2021-22 campaign. As a freshman, she averaged 3.5 points and 1.7 rebounds in 11.4 minutes per game off the bench.
As an accomplished high school player, Dwyer played her final season at the Webb Secondary School in Tennessee. She was ranked the No. 79 player in the country and the No. 15 guard in the 2021 class according to ESPN's high school girls basketball rankings. As a senior, she was named the Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year after averaging 22,5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.6 steals per game. The former four-star recruit led the Webb School to a 32-2 record and a Division II- Class A State Championship. Back in her hometown of Toronto in 2020, she was named a BioSteel All-Canadian Basketball Games nominee in 2020.
Dwyer becomes the fourth transfer to sign with the Red Storm this off-season joining Jade Blagrove (Manhattan), Kylie Lavelle (Penn State) and Ariana Vanderhoop (Monmouth). The group will join eight returners and two incoming freshman to round at the 2024-25 St. John's women's basketball roster.
