The Red Storm will wrap up the 2024 regular season at Sacred Heart on Sunday
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team (28-25, 13-11) has added a final contest against Sacred Heart (26-26, 16-8) to its 2024 regular season schedule.
The first pitch is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. from Pioneer Park in Fairfield, Conn. Live stats for the game will be provided on RedStormSports.com.
The Red Storm enter Sunday winning seven of its last nine contests. Earlier this week, the Johnnies traveled to West Point for a doubleheader against Army, taking the first game, 2-1, before shutting out the Black Knights in the latter contest, 2-0. Strong pitching was the story on Wednesday as it has been all season for St. John's, including the 4-0 series finale win against Seton Hall on Sunday that punched the Red Storm's ticket to its 14th BIG EAST Tournament in program history.
Ana Serafinko has now tossed a shutout in her last two starts, bringing her total to six on the season. The left-hander was dominant in the second game at Army, allowing just two hits while punching out 10 batters. The two-way player also provided the Red Storm with the lead, drilling an RBI double and came around to score on an errant throw to plate the game's only two runs. Serafinko is among the conference's best and leads the Red Storm pitching staff with a 2.32 ERA and 154 strikeouts in 126.2 innings of work.
Sophomore Loreley Francia has enjoyed a terrific second year in Queens, compiling a 2.84 ERA and 140 strikeouts in the circle. Francia helped the Johnnies take game one at West Point, tossing her 11th complete game of the season while allowing just one run in the win.
Amy Mallah continued to swing a hot bat at Army after having one of her better weekends against Seton Hall. The graduate student has tallied four RBIs in the last four games to bring her total to 12 RBIs.
Shortstop London Jarrard continues to lead the Red Storm offense, producing a pair of hits and a run scored at Army. The shortstop is actively hitting .327 to go along with a team-high 10 home runs and 49 RBIs. Jarrard sits just two doubles shy of setting the career program record with 46 doubles.
Sacred Heart enters Sunday with an even 26-26 overall record and a 16-8 mark in the NEC. The Pioneers recently took down Fairfield, 6-5, on Wednesday after taking two of three games from Le Moyne in their final conference series of the season.
Carly Koltko leads Sacred Heart's lineup with a .324 batting average, seven home runs and 29 RBIs on the year. In the circle, Emily Heath tops the Pioneers' pitching staff with a 2.42 ERA in 147.1 innings.
St. John's holds an all-time record of 11-1 against Sacred Heart. Sunday's contest will mark the first time the Johnnies have visited Pioneer Park since the 2003 season with the last six meetings all being held in Queens.
Last season, the two programs met for the first time since 2007 in a doubleheader. The Red Storm came out on top in both games, winning the first contest, 7-4, before taking the second game in five innings, 11-0, behind Jess Bianco going 4-for-4 with three runs scored.
Following Sunday, St. John's will look ahead to the BIG EAST Tournament that is set to begin on Wednesday in Providence, R.I.
