Johnnies are slated to play 14 non-conference matches and 18 BIG EAST contests
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's volleyball team and Head Coach Joanne Persico announced its 32-match fall schedule for the 2024 season on Thursday.
The 2024 slate includes 14 non-conference matches and 18 BIG EAST contests. The Red Storm will host 17 home matches at Carnesecca Arena, the on-campus home of St. John's Volleyball.
St. John's will play a national schedule featuring opponents from 11 different conferences. Eight of the Red Storm's 2024 opponents made appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
The Red Storm is coming off a 24-11 record during the 2023 season, highlighted by a trip to the BIG EAST Tournament Championship match. The Johnnies competed in the NIVC Tournament for the second-consecutive year, downing Howard in straight sets in the opening round.
Broadcast information for all matches will be announced at a later date and all times are listed in Eastern Standard Time. Admission to all home matches is free.
St. John's will kick off its season at home for the first time since 2018 with the Red Storm Invitational from Aug. 30-31. The Red Storm will host Northeastern and Niagara in a doubleheader on Aug. 30 and will close out the tournament against Coppin State on Aug. 31 at 1 p.m.
The Red Storm will then take its first road trip out to the West Coast for the University of San Diego Invitational from Sept. 5-8. St. John's will battle with San Diego, UC Santa Barbara and Arizona State across the three-day tournament. The program will meet the Sun Devils for the second consecutive season in neutral territory.
The following Tuesday, the Johnnies will play host to NJIT for a midweek matchup on Sept. 10. The Red Storm has won all three of its all-time contests against Highlanders, taking each match in straight sets.
St. John's will then make the trip to University Park, Pa., for the Penn State Invitational on Sept. 13-14. The Johnnies will kick off the invitational against Princeton on Sept. 13 before competing in a doubleheader against Duke and Penn State on Sept. 14. The Red Storm will make its first appearance at Rec Hall for a regular season match since the 2010 season.
Fairfield will come to Carnesecca Arena on Sept. 18 for a midweek battle to close the Red Storm's non-conference slate. The meeting will be the 11th in the all-time series between the two programs.
On Sept. 20-21, St. John's will host the 10th annual Jack Kaiser Volleyball Classic, drawing Iona, LIU and Bryant to Queens. The Red Storm have won each of the last seven tournament titles.
The next week, St. John's will host Seton Hall on Sept. 27 to open BIG EAST play and cap off a five-match homestand. The contest marks the 10th straight season that the Red Storm will open conference competition at Carnesecca Arena.
Two days later, the Johnnies will head down to Washington D.C. on Sept. 29 for a date with Georgetown. The Red Storm swept the Hoyas in straight sets in their sole meeting last season.
St. John's will remain on the road for the following weekend for matches against Xavier on Oct. 4 and at DePaul on Oct. 6.
After a week of rest, St. John's returns home for a battle against conference foe Marquette on Oct. 11. The Red Storm took down Marquette inside Carnesecca last season for the first time since 2019, behind Erin Jones' first triple-double, the first in program history.
The very next day, the Johnnies will host Creighton for a rematch of the 2023 BIG EAST Championship on Oct. 12.
Coach Perisco's squad will then travel to New England, facing Providence on Oct. 18 and UConn on Oct. 19. The Red Storm did not surrender a set to either school during the 2023 campaign.
On Wednesday, Oct. 23, the Red Storm will welcome Villanova to Queens for a midweek tilt. The Johnnies will then remain at home for a match against Butler that Friday, Oct. 25. St. John's pulled off a dramatic reverse sweep when the Bulldogs came to New York last season.
The following weekend, the Red Storm will travel to Creighton in Omaha, Neb. on Nov. 1 and Marquette in Milwaukee on Nov. 3. St. John's beat Marquette on its home court in last year's BIG EAST Volleyball Championship Semifinals, 3-2.
The Johnnies will then return home to host DePaul at Carnesecca Arena on Nov. 8 before welcoming Xavier on Nov. 9.
The week after, the program will hit the road for a midweek duel against Villanova at Jake Nevin Field House on Nov. 13. The following Sunday, St. John's will play their final road match against Butler in historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.
The Red Storm will close out its regular season with two home matches against UConn and Providence. The Johnnies will faceoff against UConn on Nov. 22, before hosting Providence on Nov. 23 for senior day.
The 2024 BIG EAST Volleyball Championship Presented by JEEP will be held from Nov. 27-30 and will be hosted by Creighton in Omaha, Neb. Six of the 11 BIG EAST teams will qualify for the championship, with the top two schools receiving a bye into the semifinal round.
