EUGENE Ore. – Nora Haugen wrapped up the 2024 Outdoor Track & Field season at the NCAA Track & Field Championships at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., on Thursday night.
Running in the last of three heats, the standout put together an incredible effort in the national championship semifinal, pacing the 800-meter run in 2:03.47 for 19th overall against the best in the nation.
"We're all proud of Nora. She's always gracious," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Aliann Pompey, OLY. "The way she dealt with the result tonight was a testament to her maturity and made us all proud she's a Johnnie."
The BIG EAST's only runner in the 800, Haugen is now the ninth individual Johnnie since 2003 to compete in the NCAA Championships. The sophomore is the first St. John's track & field student-athlete to compete in the 800-meter run at the NCAA Championships since Claire Mooney finished 15th overall at a 2:05.48 pace in 2016.
Haugen finished out her sophomore season with a 19th-place finish in the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Throughout her stellar campaign in Queens, the Sandnes, Norway native broke school records in the indoor and outdoor 800-meter run and the sprint medley relay six times. The former BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week has also tallied six wins and has recorded 11 podium finishes in three events during the indoor and outdoor seasons.
