Jamora Alves Named BIG EAST Women's Field Athlete of the Week

Alves set new career-bests in the weight throw and shot put last weekend
NEW YORK – After notching two career-best throws in the weight throw and shot put last weekend, Jamora Alves was named the BIG EAST Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
The honor marks the second BIG EAST weekly award of Alves' career. The Grenada native was previously tabbed as the conference's field athlete of the week on March 29, 2023.
Alves enjoyed a successful weekend at Columbia's Dr. Sander Scorcher at the Armory in Manhattan, winning a gold medal in the weight throw and a bronze medal in the shot put.
In the weight throw, the junior picked up a gold medal for the Red Storm on Friday. Alves posted a personal-best toss of 16.68 meters for first place in the event.
Alves continued her weekend by earning a bronze medal in the shot put the next day. The junior put together a personal-record throw of 15.23 meters for third place in the event. Her shot put performance was the best in the BIG EAST last weekend.
So far this season, the standout has earned first-place finishes in the shot put at the Youree Spence-Garcia Invitational and in the weight throw at the Dr. Sander Scorcher. Additionally, Alves has finished with a personal best in every event she has competed in, through the season's opening two meets.
Alves and the Red Storm will return to action on Friday when the squad takes part in the Indoor Metropolitan Championships at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
