St. John’s Falls to Villanova on Senior Night, 1-0

Four seniors were honored pregame for their contributions to the program
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's soccer team (2-7-4, 0-4-2 BIG EAST) fell on Senior Night against Villanova (8-5, 3-2 BIG EAST), 1-0, at Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium.
The Wildcats scored an early goal and clung onto a one goal advantage for the remainder of the match. Alex Little recorded the goal for the visitors, her first of the season.
Prior to the game, four seniors- Mia Agresti, Kayla Bower, Molly McGlame and Emily Riggins were honored before the game for their contributions to the women's soccer program. The group was joined by Head Coach Ian Stone, Deputy Athletics Director Dr. John Diffley, Ed. D. and Vice President/ Director of Athletics Ed Kull.
Bower racked up the save numbers once again logging eight on her senior recognition night. The BIG EAST saves leader has recorded six or more stops for six consecutive matches.
Riggins and Leana Ruiz recorded shots for the Johnnies' during Saturday's contest in Queens. Nia Derodel made her second-ever collegiate start.
Villanova got on the board in 12th minute as Alex Little got on the end of a misheaded ball in the box tucking home a shot from right in front of the net to pull in front, 1-0.
In the second half, the Red Storm engineered its best opportunity off a corner kick. Abby Fitzmaurice provided the service as Riggins volleyed an attempt on goal that was lifted over the crossbar.
In the 72nd minute, Bower made a pair of incredible saves denying the Wildcats from close range to keep the deficit at just a single goal. Villanova held on for its third BIG EAST win of the season.
The Red Storm will be back in action on Wednesday night against No. 20 Xavier for a BIG EAST road match at Corcoran Field.
