Red Storm to compete from Oct.16-21 in Princeton
QUEENS, N.Y. — Nine members of the St. John's men's tennis team will travel to Princeton this weekend for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regionals, beginning on Thursday.
The Johnnies are slated to compete in singles and doubles action at the Princeton University Tennis Courts.
Armando Sotelo, Adam Groves, and Filip Paroulek will compete in qualifying play, while Danilo Raicevic, Sergej Zivkovic, Adam Kresina, and Semen Agynskyy are set to take part in the main draw of singles competition.
The Red Storm will send four doubles squads to Princeton, highlighted by the pairings of Raicevic and Kresina, Paroulek and Simon Hegarty and Groves and Sotelo, while Agynskyy rounds out the group alongside Zivkovic.
At last year's regionals, the Red Storm had a successful weekend, tallying 13 wins over four days of competition. Sotelo and Raicevic shined for the Johnnies, both advancing to the Round of 16 in their respective pairs.
St. John's opened its fall slate with a dominant showing at the Hofstra Invitational, totaling 21 victories across two days of competition against student-athletes from host Hofstra, Fordham, Stony Brook, NJIT, St. Joseph's and Army in Hempstead, N.Y.
Following the ITA Northeast Regionals this weekend, the Johnnies continue their fall slate at the Drexel Invitational from Nov. 7–9. Those who qualify at regionals will instead compete at the ITA Sectionals, held Nov. 6–9 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
