St. John’s Finishes Third at Xavier Invitational

Red Storm record second straight top-three finish
CINCINNATI, Ohio – For the second consecutive tournament, the St. John's golf team finished inside the top-three taking home third place at the Xavier Invitational on Tuesday.
The Johnnies placed third in the 12-team over two days and three rounds of competition at Maketewah Country Club. The Red Storm carded a 47-over, 887, over 54 holes in Cincinnati. Four St. John's golfers finished inside the top-35 in a balanced effort.
Freshman Eli Weidmann continues to shine during the early portion of his rookie campaign placing a team-best 17th overall. The Murphys, Calif., native registered an 11-over, 221, highlighted by a 1-over, 71, in Tuesday's final round.
Matthew DiFiore shot up the leaderboard on Tuesday climbing 24 spots to finish tied for 23rd in the 76-golfer field. The freshman closed the event with a 1-under, 69, one of four players to go under par during today's third round. Overall, the Long Island native logged a 12-over, 222, at Maketewah Country Club.
Joseph Dolezal and Max McColgan both fired a 15-over, 225, to tie for 35th place in the Queen City.
The Red Storm will close out its fall slate on Oct. 27-28 at the Wykagyl Invitational hosted by Iona in New Rochelle, N.Y.
