Max McColgan shoots 5-under in opening two rounds at Wykagyl Country Club
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The St. John's men's golf team sits in third place after two rounds at the Wykagyl Invitational behind impressive performances from Max McColgan and David Mlynek on Monday.
The Red Storm shot a combined 7-over, 583, over the first 36 holes on a brisk fall day at Wykagyl Country Club. The Johnnies opened the day with a 4-over, 292, before improving by one stroke logging a 3-over, 291, in the latter round in New Rochelle, N.Y. Rhode Island leads the 12-team field after posting a scorching 13-under, 563, over the opening two rounds.
Max McColgan was firing on all cylinders posting a season-low 4-under, 68, to open the tournament. The freshman followed it up going under par again adding a 1-under, 70, to his scorecard to finish at 5-under, 138, tied for second place. The Lincoln Mass., native was the lone Johnnie to record an eagle.
David Mlynek joins McColgan in the top-10 after posting a 2-under, 141, through the first 36 holes to take eighth place on the leaderboard. The senior opened the event shooting 2-over, 74, over his initial 18 before going low in the second round finishing out the day with a 4-under, 68.
Matthew DiFiore placed next for the Johnnies closing out the day with a 5-over, 148, to tie for 23rd place. Eli Weidmann is tied for 39th (+9, 153) and Joseph Dolezal (+12, 156) is tied for 44th to round out the Red Storm line-up.
St. John's will play its final round of the fall campaign tomorrow morning at Wykagyl Country Club. Live results will be available on Leaderboard King.
