St. John’s to Welcome RV Seton Hall on Saturday

QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's soccer team (7-4-3, 2-2-1 BIG EAST) will welcome RV Seton Hall (6-2-6, 3-0-2 BIG EAST) on Saturday from Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium.
The contest originally slated for 4:30 p.m. has been pushed back to a 5 p.m. start time. The BIG EAST battle will be streamed on ESPN+ with Johnny Gadamowitz on the call from Queens. Live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
On Tuesday night, the Red Storm captured a road win during its final non-conference game against a Division I opponent outlasting Monmouth, 1-0. The Johnnies outshot the Hawks 17-3 and Guilherme Gomes provided the decisive tally with a world-class finish from 20 yards out in the 65th minute.
Gomes has burst onto the scene during his rookie campaign for Head Coach Dr. Dave Masur. The Sao Paulo, Brazil native leads the Johnnies with six goals and three game-winning tallies. The midfielder's goal total ranks tied for fifth amongst freshman in NCAA Division I and third overall in the BIG EAST. His six tallies marks the most by a St. John's rookie since the program's last BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Skage Simonsen in 2018.
Alec McLachlan logged his fourth clean sheet at Hesse Field in West Long Branch, N.J. in the victory over the Hawks. The shutout effort marked the third straight year the senior has logged four clean sheets for the Johnnies. As a team, St. John's has recorded five shutouts and a goals against average of 0.93, which ranks fourth in the BIG EAST.
The Red Storm will return home to Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium for the first time in two weeks, The Johnnies hold a 4-1-2 record in Queens this season and are unbeaten in their last four contests at home. St. John's has outscored opponents 14-7 and dominated the shot category 105-40 on its home turf. Gomes has netted five of his six goals at Belson and 13 of the team's 16 assists have also been recorded at home.
With three games remaining in conference play, both the Red Storm and Pirates are in the thick of a tightly contested playoff race. Second and sixth place in the BIG EAST East Division are separated by just three points. The Pirates currently sit in a three-way tie for second place in the divisional race with nine points while the Johnnies check in at fifth with seven points through four league matches. The 2025 BIG EAST Men's Soccer Tournament will feature the league's top four teams. The East and Midwest Division winners and the next two highest point earning teams from either division will comprise the field at the Maryland SoccerPlex from Nov. 13-16.
The Johnnies have won each of the last three meetings in the series that dates back to the program's inaugural season in 1979. The Red Storm lead the all-time series 28-18-5 and have won or drawn 18 of 23 meetings played in Queens. St. John's won both meetings played in 2024 including a 2-0 victory to open the BIG EAST Tournament on Nov. 9 at Belson Stadium. Julian Jakopovic and Martin Kozak provided the goals in the postseason victory.
Seton Hall enters the contest riding a six-game unbeaten streak and have not lost since Sept. 23. During that span, the Pirates have outscored opponents 14-2 and are coming off a 5-1 rout of Lehigh on Tuesday night in South Orange, N.J. The squad earned two votes in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll.
Seton Hall has only allowed two goals during conference play and Pirates' goalkeeper Matias Molina ranks ninth in NCAA Division I with seven shutouts. The senior ranks 22nd in the country in goals against average (0.72) and 26th in save [percentage (.808).
