St. John’s Takes Down DePaul in Home Finale, 2-0

Seniors Agresti and McGlame tally early goals in the winning effort
QUEENS, N.Y.– The St. John's women's soccer team (3-8-5, 1-5-3 BIG EAST) took down DePaul (4-12-1, 1-7-1 BIG EAST), 2-0, behind a pair of goals from its seniors in their final home contest at Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium on Saturday night.
The Red Storm netted two goals in the opening 25 minutes and never relinquished its lead shutting out the Blue Demons in Queens.
Seniors Mia Agresti and Molly McGlame recorded the goals for the Red Storm in the first 25 minutes of the half. McGlame's game-winner marked the second goal of her career and her in 777 days since she added a tally against Lehigh on Sept. 9, 2023. Agresti's tally marked the first goal of her collegiate career and her three points on the night were a personal best.
Agresti, Leana Ruiz and Daniela Monzon registered helpers as St. John's logged a season-high three assists on the night.
Kayla Bower logged the clean sheet and registered three saves moving her to 92 for the season, the most by a St. John's goalkeeper since 2009. The shutout marked Bower's fourth of the season.
In the ninth minute, Ruiz played a ball to Agresti as the midfielder weaved her way through the middle of the pitch. The senior found her fellow McGlame classmate with a through pass into the box. The Hanover, Mass., native unloaded a strike into the top right corner to give the Johnnies an early lead.
In the 25th minute, Monzon found Ruiz on the give-and-go the put the junior on the breakaway. Monzon dribbled her way into the middle of the field before feeding Agresti. The Monmouth Beach, N.J., native launched a rocket from 20 yards out into the upper-90 of the twine for a world-class first career goal.
Later in the opening half, a DePaul miscue gave Janelle Sylvestre a clean look on net as the sophomore delivered a grounded strike that was halted by a Blue Demons defender that logged the team save.
In the latter half, Bower made a diving save to preserve the clean sheet in the 55th minute.
The Blue Demons logged seven second half shots but the Red Storm defense was stifling allowing only three of DePaul's 16 shots on target.
The Johnnies held on for a BIG EAST victory and record a 1-0-1 mark this week after drawing Butler on Wednesday night, 1-1. Saturday night's win marked St. John's first BIG EAST triumph of the season.
St. John's will travel out to Omaha for its regular season finale against Creighton on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. ET.
