Former National Champion and Red Storm Head Coach honored by alma mater for athletic excellence
QUEENS, N.Y. — St. John's Men's Tennis Head Coach Dillon Pottish has been inducted into the Emory University Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, recognizing his exceptional collegiate career and impact he had on the Eagles' program.
Pottish cemented his place among the all-time greats in NCAA Division III tennis during his time at Emory University. After transferring to Emory following his freshman year, he quickly became a dominant force on the court. In 2012, Pottish captured both the NCAA team and singles national championships, guiding the Eagles to their first-ever undefeated season and solidifying his legacy as one of the program's most accomplished players.
A multi-time All-American and the 2012 ITA National Senior Player of the Year, Pottish compiled a remarkable 97-14 singles record, the highest winning percentage in program history. He also became the first Emory player to earn University Atheltic Association Most Valuable Player honors three times.
Following his success in Atlanta, Pottish competed professionally on the tennis tour before earning a master's degree in Sports Management from Georgia State University.
Since arriving at St. John's Red Storm in August 2018, Pottish has guided the men's tennis program to new heights. In his first season he steered the team to its first BIG EAST men's tennis championship title and earned the conference Coaching Staff of the Year honor.
Most recently, his squad posted a 20-6 overall record, the first 20-win season since 2016, ran a perfect 6-0 in BIG EAST dual play and captured the program's seventh conference crown. Under Pottish's direction, the team has had 16 All-BIG EAST honorees, including Diogo Marques, who was named BIG EAST Player of the Year and tournament Most Outstanding Player in 2023.
His passion for coaching led him to positions at Georgetown and Columbia before taking the helm at St. John's University, where he has since guided the Red Storm to three Big East Championships.
