INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The St. John's men's soccer team earned an at-large bid to the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament it was announced Monday afternoon.
St. John's will open the NCAA Tournament on Thursday night at West Virginia for a 7 p.m. kick-off Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown. The winner of the opening round match will advance to take on 10th-seeded High Point on Sunday.
The Red Storm will make its 23rd NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 2021. The Johnnies made all 23 appearances over the last 33 years all under the direction of Head Coach Dr. Dave Masur. St. John's owns an all-time record of 28-21-1 (.570) in the NCAA Tournament and have recorded an opening match victory in each of its last three appearances.
During Masur's tenure, the program has demonstrated sustained success on the national stage. St. John's has made 12 NCAA Round of 16 appearances, including 10 straight between 1996-2005, four College Cups (1996, 2001, 2003, 2008) and captured a National Championship in 1996.
During the 2025 campaign, St. John's posted a 9-5-4 overall record and a 3-3-2 mark in BIG EAST competition. The Johnnies held a 1-1-2 record against teams ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll and the resume includes a win over then-No. 19 Akron (Oct. 3) and draws against top-five opponents in then-No. 2 Marshall (Sept. 5) and then-No. 5 Wake Forest (Aug. 31). The Red Storm played 11 of its 17 matches with NCAA Division I opponents against teams rated in the Top 100 of RPI, holding a 5-4-2 mark in those contests.
Dr. Dave Masur becomes the fifth active NCAA Division I Men's Soccer head coach to make multiple NCAA Tournament appearances in four separate decades joined by Mike Noonan (Clemson), Sasho Cirovski (Maryland), George Gelnovatch (Virginia) and Doug Allison (Furman). Masur currently ranks second among active coaches with 468 career victories.
The Red Storm qualify for the NCAA Tournament after missing the four-team BIG EAST Tournament for the second time in its program history joining the 2013 squad. The Johnnies are one of five teams from the league to earn a bid to NCAA's, tying for the most since realignment when the teams sent five in 2021.
