Peicheng Chen Leads After Day One of Vanharte Orange Country Collegiate Classic

COTO DE CAZA, Calif. – St. John's men's golf standout Peicheng Chen headed to the clubhouse atop the leaderboard after shooting a 6-under, 138, through the first 36 holes at the Vanharte Orange County Collegiate Classic.
The Red Storm sit in sixth place in the 10-team field after the first two rounds at Coto De Caza Golf Club South Course. St. John's shot a 22-over,598, as a team and improved in the latter round carding a 9-over, 297. UC Riverside sits in first place with a 1-over, 577.
Chen surged on Monday afternoon shooting a 4-under, 68, over his final 18 holes for the best second round score amongst the 60-golfer field. The Beijing, China native posted a 2-under, 70, in his opening round in Southern California. The senior tallied three eagles thus far at the event and leads the field with a 4.0 stroke average on par-5's.
Brandon Sperling shot an 8-over, 152, through the first two rounds of action to take 32nd place. The graduate student tallied a 3-over, 75, in the second round. Freshman Joseph Dolezal carded a 10-over, 154, and fellow rookie Frank Wu finished an 11-over, 155.
The Red Storm will conclude the Vanharte Orange County Collegiate Classic tomorrow with the final round beginning with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. ET. Live scoring will be available on Scoreboard by Clippd.
