Peicheng Chen Captures Individual Title at Vanharte Orange County Collegiate Classic

Chen wins third medalist honor of the season
COTO DE CAZA, Calif. – St. John's men's golfer Peicheng Chen won his third individual title of the season capturing medalist honors on Tuesday at the Vanharte Orange County Collegiate Classic in California.
Chen joins PGA Tour professionals Andy Svoboda (2000 & 2002) and Keegan Bradley (2007-08) as the only St. John's men's golfers since 1997 to win three individual titles in a single-season. The Beijing China native recorded his sixth tournament championship of his career and has won three of the Johnnies' five stroke play events during the 2024-25 campaign.
The senior carded a 6-under, 210, through three rounds at the Coto de Caza Golf Club South Course to finish atop the 60-golfer field. Chen shot an even par, 72, during Tuesday's final round to finish two strokes clear of the next competitor. The reigning BIG EAST Champion paced the field with a tournament-best four eagles and posted a 4.08 stroke average on par-5's.
The Red Storm sit in sixth place in the 10-team field after the first two rounds at Coto De Caza Golf Club South Course. St. John's shot a 22-over,598, as a team and improved in the latter round carding a 9-over, 297. UC Riverside sits in first place with a 1-over, 577.
The Red Storm as a team finished out the event tied for seventh place after shooting a 35-over, 899, in Southern California. The Johnnies carded a 13-over, 301, during the third and final round. Cal State Fullerton captured the team title by logging a 6-over, 870.
St. John's will return to the course for its next event at the turn of the month when it competes in the Sacred Heart Spring Invite on March 5-6 in Fleming Island, Fla.
