Peicheng Chen Named Co-BIG EAST Golfer of the Week

Chen won third individual title of the season at Vanharte Orange County Collegiate Classic
NEW YORK (Feb. 20, 2025) – St. John's men's golfer Peicheng Chen was named Co-BIG EAST Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced on Thursday afternoon.
Chen garnered the honor after winning his third tournament of the year at the Vanharte Orange County Collegiate Classic. The senior shares the honor with Xavier's Ray Filter, who won the Wexford Intercollegiate this week.
Chen joins PGA Tour professionals Andy Svoboda (2000 & 2002) and Keegan Bradley (2007-08) as the only St. John's men's golfers since 1997 to win three individual titles in a single-season. The Beijing China native recorded his sixth tournament championship of his career and has won three of the Johnnies' five stroke play events during the 2024-25 campaign. The Beijing, China native joins Dane Huddelston of Utah Valley as the only two players NCAA I Division golf to record three individual stroke play wins this season.
The senior carded a 6-under, 210, through three rounds at the Coto de Caza Golf Club South Course to finish atop the 60-golfer field on Feb. 10-11. Chen shot an even par, 72, during the final round to finish two strokes clear of the next competitor. Chen paced the field with a tournament-best four eagles and posted a 4.08 stroke average on par-5's.
The reigning BIG EAST Champion earns the conference honor for the third time season after previously being named BIG EAST Golfer of the Week on Sept. 18 and Oct. 2. The player of the week recognition marks the fifth of Chen's collegiate career.
Chen and the Red Storm will be back in action on March 5-6 when it competes in the Sacred Heart Spring Invite in Florida.
