St. John’s Readies for Kennesaw State Tournament

The Red Storm enter the weekend winners of five of its last six games
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team is set to head to the Kennesaw State Tournament, playing five games over the weekend.
The Red Storm will begin the tournament on Friday by taking on Saint Louis at 10 a.m. before battling Rider at 4 p.m. The following day, the Johnnies will square off with ETSU at 10 a.m. ahead of a match-up with Kennesaw State at 1 p.m. On Sunday, St. John's will wrap up its time in Georgia with another contest against ETSU at 12:30 p.m.

The Johnnies enter the weekend as winners of five of its last six games after going 4-1 at Winthrop's Garnet and Gold Tournament last weekend. St. John's picked up a pair of run-rule victories against Le Moyne, downed Youngstown State in six innings and shut out Brown in Rock Hill, S.C. The Red Storm suffered its only setback to Winthrop, falling in the eighth inning by a score of 4-3.
St. John's has been led by its pitching staff, who has been racking up strikeouts to start the season, ranking eighth in Division I with 8.58 strikeouts per seven innings. Juniors Loreley Francia and Ana Serafinko lead the staff with 54 strikeouts apiece, topping the BIG EAST conference and sitting tied for 11th nationally in the category.
Francia earned BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday after tossing 14 scoreless innings and striking out 20 batters while going 3-0 inside the circle last weekend. Against Brown, the right-hander came within one out of throwing a full seven-inning no-hitter. Francia finished off the third complete-game shutout of her career, striking out seven batters in the win. The Spring, Texas product leads the Red Storm with a 1.20 ERA in 46.2 innings pitched this season.
Serafinko had a historic performance over the weekend, punching out 17 batters in the Red Storm's six-inning win over Youngstown State. 17 of the 18 outs recorded were strikeouts, as the left-hander allowed just one unearned run on four hits to pick up her second victory of the season. The Chino Hills, Calif., native holds a 2.95 ERA in 38 innings of work to start the year.
On offense, the Johnnies batted a whopping .377 and plated 36 runs on 52 hits across the five games last weekend. Jess Bianco and London Jarrard led the charge, combining for 24 hits and 17 RBIs from the top of the order.
Bianco was tabbed BIG EAST Player of the Week for the first time in her career on Monday. The junior went 13-for-15 (.867) with nine runs scored, two doubles, four RBIs, three walks and six stolen bases. On the opening day of the tournament, Bianco set a career-high with three RBIs against Le Moyne before matching a career-best with four knocks against Winthrop the following day. The Cherry Hill, N.J., product is hitting .449 with 14 runs scored, 22 hits, three doubles and five RBIs to begin the season.
Jarrard put on a show in South Carolina, going 11-for-20 (.550) from the dish while drilling two home runs, driving in 13 runs and crossing the plate six times. The shortstop also hit the 46th double of her career, breaking Chelsea Durning's program record that has been held since 2011. Jarrard leads the squad with two home runs and 15 RBIs, while her .367 batting average ranks second.
St. John's will begin action on Friday against Saint Louis who enters the weekend with an even 5-5 record. The Billikens finished last season with a 31-22 record, falling in the A-10 Championship to Dayton. Junior Abby Mallo leads the Saint Louis lineup with three home runs and eight RBIs.
The Red Storm and Billikens will meet for the first time in the two program's history at Bailey Park.
Rider is next on the schedule, beginning the weekend with a 1-4 record after falling to DePaul twice, UNC-Wilmington and splitting a pair of contests with UMass last weekend. The Broncos ended last season with a 23-28 mark, dropping the opening two games in the MAAC Championships. Anna-Marie Groskritz leads Rider's pitching staff with a 0.93 ERA in 15 innings of work.
The Johnnies and Broncos are set to meet for the 20th time in history on Friday. Rider leads the all-time series with an 11-8 record, but St. John's has won each of the last five contests, dating back to 1999.

The Buccaneers start the tournament with a 3-9 record after dropping all four of their contest at the 2025 Rocket City Softball Showcase last weekend. Senior Cameron Young leads the Bucs with a .471 average to start the year. The three-time all-conference selection has also tallied three doubles, seven RBIS and six runs scored in 2025.
The Red Storm and Buccaneers will square off for the fourth and fifth time ever this weekend. St. John's took both games against ETSU back in 2017 during its home tournament, winning the final game in extra innings, 7-6.
Finally, the Johnnies will battle Kennesaw State for the first time in program history. The Owls have started 2025 with a 5-12 record, most recently falling to Georgia Tech, 7-2. Kennesaw State finished last year with a 16-37 record and an 8-13 mark in Conference USA. Freshman Ana Gore has started the season on fire, batting .333 with six doubles, two home runs and 11 RBIs.
Following its time in Georgia, St. John's will continue its spring break trip in Northern Florida from March 6-8.
