No. 7/7 St. John’s Seeks Outright BIG EAST Title against Seton Hall on Senior Day at MSG

The Johnnies set to host a White Out on Saturday at The World’s Most Famous Arena
QUEENS, N.Y. – The No. 7/7 St. John's men's basketball team (25-4, 16-2 BIG EAST) can win its first outright BIG EAST Regular Season title since 1985 with a victory over Seton Hall (7-21, 2-15 BIG EAST) on Senior Day at Madison Square Garden. Apple Bank is the official game sponsor for Saturday's matchup with the Pirates as the first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a long sleeve t-shirt.
The Red Storm clinched at least a share of its first BIG EAST Regular Season title since 1991-92 with a 76-70 victory over Butler on Wednesday, while also earning a record-breaking 16th conference victory in Indianapolis.
The regular season home finale is set to tip-off at 2:15 p.m. at The World's Most Famous Arena. A national telecast will air on CBS with Ian Eagle, Bill Raftery and Jon Rothstein on the call from Midtown Manhattan.

Prior to the game, three men's basketball players - Kadary Richmond, Aaron Scott and Deivon Smith - along with two student managers will be honored in a Senior Day ceremony for their contributions to the program. The ceremony is slated to begin at approximately 1:50 p.m.
An audio broadcast of the game on the LEARFIELD Red Storm Sports Network with John Minko and Brandon Tierney will also be available on a variety of platforms including the Varsity Network App, TuneIn Radio, RedStormSports.com and the St. John's Red Storm mobile app. The radio broadcast can also be heard on SiriusXM radio channel 161 or 201 and via the SiriusXM App.
In Wednesday's win at Butler, RJ Luis Jr. led four Johnnies in double-figures, finishing with 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting. As a team, the Red Storm shot 49.2 percent (29-59 FG) from the field and held an advantage for all but 33 seconds at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
On Saturday, the Red Storm will look to go undefeated at home for the first time in 94 years since St. John's posted a 16-0 mark at Madison Square Garden and its on-campus venue under Head Coach James "Buck" Freeman in 1931-32. The Johnnies currently own a 17-0 record at home and aim for its 20th consecutive regular season win in New York City, dating back to last season.
St. John's has captured victories in all eight games played at Madison Square Garden this season and looks to go undefeated at The World's Most Famous Arena for the first time since the 1982-83 campaign. The Red Storm has won 11 straight regular season battles at MSG, the second longest streak in program history. As of Feb. 28, the Red Storm is the only team in NCAA Division I with 17 wins at home without a loss this season and hold the longest active home winning streak in the country.
Pitino captured his 13th regular season title and became the first coach in college basketball history to win a crown at five different schools (Boston University, Kentucky, Louisville, Iona, St. John's). The winningest active coach in Division I, Pitino has amassed 879 victories and tied Dean Smith on Wednesday for seventh on the all-time wins list.
With a proven track record of second year success, Pitino earned his fourth regular season title in year two during his sixth collegiate head coaching stop. He previously recorded second year titles at Boston University (1979-80), Kentucky (1990-91) and Iona (2022-23). Wednesday's clinching victory marked the third BIG EAST Regular Season Championship for Pitino, who won the title twice while at Louisville in 2009 and 2013.

Dropping 12 of its last 13 games, including its last three, Seton Hall has a 7-21 overall record and 2-15 mark in BIG EAST games. The two Big East victories both came in overtime at home, against UConn, 69-68, on Feb. 15, and DePaul, 85-80, on Jan. 8. The Pirates have dropped all nine of its road contests this year.
Isaiah Coleman has posted nine 20-point games this season for the Pirates. In BIG EAST games only, he ranks sixth in scoring, averaging 17.5 points per game, and is 14th in rebounding with 6.1 boards per contest.
