St. John’s Drops Final Contest at BIG EAST Match Play Event

Red Storm will return to action in California next week
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The St. John's men's golf team concluded its first event of 2025 of Tuesday, dropping its final contest of BIG EAST Match Play against Creighton, 5.5-1.5.
The Red Storm wrapped up the event finishing in sixth place, posting a 0-2-1 record after advancing on a tiebreaker in yesterday's matchup with Villanova.
In the fifth-place match against the Bluejays, the Johnnies were outlasted at Bear Lakes Country Club in West palm Beach. Joseph Dolezal tallied the lone win for the Johnnies after holding a two-hole edge with one left to play over Creighton's Owen Price to tally the 2&1 victory in the Sunshine State.
Brandon Sperling recorded a tie in his faceoff with the Bluejays' Jacob Kutner, the graduate student recorded a 1-1-1 record at the event, including a decisive 5&4 victory yesterday against Villanova.
Marquette captured the BIG EAST Match Play Championship after coasting through its three matches, including a 5-2 victory in the title match over UConn.
With its spring campaign now underway, St. John's will return to action next week, when it ventures to the West Coast to compete in Orange County Collegiate Classic in Coto de Caza, Calif. on Feb. 10-11.
