St. John’s Heads Upstate to Battle No. 37 Cornell

The Johnnies are 15-1 for the first time in program history
QUEENS, N.Y. – Following a sweep of Hofstra on Wednesday, the St. John's men's tennis team will head to Ithaca, N.Y., to do battle with No. 37 Cornell on Saturday. First serve from the Reis Tennis Center is set for 12 p.m.
The Johnnies (15-1, 3-0 BIG EAST) earned a 7-0 shutout over Hofstra on Wednesday at the USTA National Tennis Center to continue their best start in program history.
Ryota Kaneda and Adam Groves have paced the Johnnies in doubles action, earning a 13-0 record so far this season as a duo. Leonardo MIleikowsky and Ignacio Vinas have also impressed when paired up, going 6-4 in dual-match play in 2025.
In solo play, the Johnnies have been led by Kaneda and Mileikowsky, who are 11-1 and 10-1, respectively. St. John's has also received impressive performances from Max Amling, who is 9-3, and Vinas, who has won nine of his 11 contests. All 12 of Amling's solo contests have come on the No. 1 singles court.
Cornell is 9-5 this season and 5-0 on its home court. Last time out, the Big Red dropped a nailbiter to No. 14 Baylor, 4-3, on Sunday.
The nationally-ranked Big Red have been paced by Adit Sinha, Filipe Pinzon and Radu Papoe, who each have seven singles triumphs. In doubles action, Rushil Khosla and Eric Verges have partnered up for six victories.
When the two programs last squared off, Cornell earned a 6-1 home win on Jan. 28, 2024.
Following Saturday's contest in Ithaca, the Johnnies will stay on the road for a matchup against Monmouth on March 19. First serve from West Long Branch, N.J., s set for 1 p.m.
