St. John’s Prepares for Seton Hall and Hofstra this Weekend

The Red Storm will face the Pirates on Saturday and host the Pride on Sunday
QUEENS, N.Y. – After 13 days off, the St. John's women's tennis team will return to action this weekend with a pair of matches against Seton Hall and Hofstra. The Johnnies will travel to South Orange, N.J., for a 12:15 p.m. contest against the Pirates on Saturday before returning to Queens to host the Pride on Sunday.
The Johnnies are 7-4 this season, most recently falling to FGCU on March 4 in Florida. Alicia Gomez has led the Red Storm in her second year in Queens, winning 14 total matches so far this season. Gomez has a team-best seven singles triumphs and has won five matches in doubles play alongside Victoria Papadopoulou. Giulia Bizzari is 5-1 in singles action, while Sandra Dzhambazov also has five wins. Charlotta Buss has also impressed in solo play, winning four of her five matches this season.
Seton Hall is 8-6 this season and 0-3 in BIG EAST action, most recently dropping a close contest to Saint Leo, 4-3, in Saint Leo, Florida. Isabelle May leads the Pirates with eight dual-match victories in singles action this year, while Tasmin Hart and Imoen Brooker each have six.
The Johnnies lead the all-time series against their conference rivals from New Jersey, 20-2. When the teams last squared off in 2023, the Red Storm walked away with a 7-0 victory in South Orange. St. John's has won the last four meetings between the two teams.
Hofstra is 2-8 on the year and will face Delaware before coming to Queens on Sunday. Last time out, the Pride fell short against Colgate at West Point, N.Y., 5-2. Lea Forste-Dinell leads Hofstra with four singles triumphs, while Amanda Kadiri and Dniz Soyer are 5-5 in doubles action.
Saturday will be the sixth all-time meeting between the two schools, with the Johnnies emerging victorious in the previous five. Last time the programs squared off, St. John's picked up a 4-1 win last season.
Following this weekend's matches, the Red Storm will head to Chicago for a March 21 meeting against DePaul.
