Women’s Tennis Prepares for ITA Northeast Regionals

The Red Storm will compete over six days in Philadelphia
QUEENS, N.Y. — The St. John's women's tennis team heads to the City of Brotherly Love for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regionals.
The six-day event begins Thursday at the Hamlin/Hecht Tennis Center on the campus of UPenn and runs through Tuesday.
The tournament is comprised of a singles field of 64, proceeded by a qualifying round and doubles bracket of 32 pairs. The two singles finalists and doubles champions will qualify for the NCAA championships from Nov. 18-23.
For the Red Storm, Victoria Papadopoulou and Noemi Babikova have already guaranteed themselves a spot in the main singles draw. Alicia Gomez, Charlotta Buss, Nicoline Sartz-Lunde, and Giulia Bizzari begin their runs in the qualifying round. Four Johnnies will be competing in the double's tournament.
Last season, the Johnnies secured four victories across singles and doubles play. Babikova stood out for St. John's, advancing to the Round of 16 after delivering a first-round shutout performance.
The Red Storm are coming off a strong showing at the Fordham Invitational, collecting 15 wins over the weekend. The Red Storm have now totaled 29 victories so far this fall.
Following the ITA Northeast Regionals this weekend, the Johnnies wrap up its fall season at the Buffalo Indoor Invite in Williamsville, N.Y. from Oct. 31-Nov.1.
