St. John’s Wins Pair of Matches over Seton Hall, 6-1, and Hofstra, 4-0

The Johnnies took down the Pirates on Saturday before besting the Pride on Sunday
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team won a pair of matches this weekend, taking down Seton Hall on Friday, 6-1, before shutting out Hofstra, 4-0, on Saturday in Queens.
With the pair of victories, the Red Storm improves to 9-4 this season and 2-0 in BIG EAST play.
Against the Pirates on Saturday, the Johnnies took the team doubles point in West Orange, N.J., before winning five of six contests in solo action, earning the convincing victory over their BIG EAST rivals.
Noemi Babikova and Alicia Gomez kicked off doubles action with a shutout 6-0 victory against Paige Wise and Rachel Benoualid on the No. 1 court. Sandra Dzhambazov and Alexandra Nielsen earned a 6-4 decision on the No. 2 court to clinch the team point for the Red Storm.
Babikova earned her second victory of the day in singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 performance at No. 2 singles over Anastasia Sered. Dzhambazov and Gomez picked up wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to give the Johnnies a commanding 4-0 advantage before Nicoline Sartz-Lunde made it 5-0 by besting Imoen Brooker, 7-6, 6-4 on the No. 3 court. St. John's sixth point of the day came courtesy of a comeback win from Victoria Papadopoulou at No. 1 singles against Wise, 4-6, 6-2, 10-4.
With the win, the Johnnies improved to 21-2 all-time against their rivals from New Jersey and have emerged victorious in the last five meetings.
The Red Storm continued its momentum into Sunday's senior night match against Hofstra. The Johnnies easily took the doubles point before barreling through singles play for its sixth shutout win of 2025.
Babikova and Gomez picked up their second victory in as many days, taking down Amanda Kadiri and Deniz Soyer, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles. The Red Storm clinched the point with Dzhambazov and Sartz-Lunde's 7-5 thrilling win over Abigail Higgins and Sabrina Mohamed on the No. 2 court.
In singles action, Dzhambazov got her fourth triumph of the weekend, beating Kaitlyn Ferguson, 6-2, 6-0, giving St. John's a 2-0 advantage. Gomez also won for the fourth time in two matches, earning the third point for the home side on the No. 6 court, besting Mary Madigan, 6-2, 6-0. Babikova finished off the sweep at No. 2 singles, playing to a 7-5, 6-1 performance against Lea Forste-Dinell.
The Red Storm will return to action on Friday, March 21, when it travels to Chicago to take on DePaul. First Serve from the XS Tennis Village is set for 12:30 p.m. (ET).
