St. John’s Earns 7-0 Sweep Over Bethune-Cookman

The Johnnies earned their first road triumph of the season
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – The St. John's women's tennis team made quick work of Bethune-Cookman on Sunday, 7-0, in Daytona Beach, Fla., winning its second match in a row.
The Johnnies (7-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) won all three matches in doubles play before sweeping solo action, earning their first road victory of 2025.
Alicia Gomez and Victoria Papadopoulou's sixth win of the season as a pair, a 6-0 shutout of Allexii Bassette and Jalayah Shaw, kicked off doubles play. Sandra Dzhambazov and Nicoline Sartz-Lunde took down Zahara El-Zein and Lesa Snipes-Williams, 6-4, on the No. 2 court to clinch the team point for the visitors. Giulia Bizzari and Charlotta Buss also earned a victory by default, improving their record to 5-0 on the year.
In solo action, Gomez improved to 7-2 this season with a perfect performance over Keona Burley, 6-0, 6-0. Papadopoulou earned her second triumph of the day, a 6-4, 6-1 win over Shaw on the No. 1 court, while Noemi Babikova easily got passed El-Zein at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Buss took down Assette, 6-1, 6-2, improving to 4-1 to kick off her freshman campaign, and Dzhambazov put on a dominant performance over Snipes-Williams, 6-0, 6-1.
Bizzari was also credited with a win by default on the No. 6 court to move to 5-0 in 2025.
With the win, the Red Storm is now 1-0 all-time against Bethune Cookman. The Johnnies will return to action on Tuesday against FGCU in Fort Meyers, Fla. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
