St. John’s Heads to Florida to Face Bethune-Cookman and FGCU

The Red Storm will face the Wildcats on Sunday and the Eagles on Tuesday
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's tennis team will head to Florida for a pair of matches this week against Betune-Cookman on Sunday and FGCU on Tuesday. Sunday's contests against the Wildcats in Daytona Beach will begin at 11 a.m., while Tuesday's match at the FGCU Tennis Complex in Fort Meyers is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
The Johnnies are 6-3 this season, most recently earning a 4-0 sweep over Stony Brook on Wednesday in Queens. Alicia Gomez has led the Red Storm in her second year in Queens, winning 10 total matches so far this season. Gomez has a team-best six singles triumphs and has won four matches in doubles play alongside Victoria Papadopoulou. Giulia Bizzari is a perfect 5-0 in singles action, while Sandra Dzhambazov has four wins. Charlotta Buss has also impressed in solo play, winning three of her four matches this season.
The Wildcats are 3-1 this season, coming off a 7-0 loss at Stetson on Friday, Feb. 7. Prior to facing the Red Storm on Saturday, Beth-Cookman will host Charleston on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Saturday will be the first all-time meeting between the two programs.
FGCU is 5-4 in dual match play in 2025, falling most recently to Yale on Friday, 5-2. Anjali Kotecha has a team-best five singles wins, while Ashley Matz, Nora Svensson and Isabella Colmenares each have four triumphs. Tuesday will mark the fourth meeting between the Eagles and Johnnies, with FGCU winning each of the previous three.
Following this week's contests in the Sunshine State, the Red Storm will return to action on March 15 in South Orange, N.J. to face Seton Hall.
