NEW YORK – St. John's lacrosse long stick midfielder Dylan Lee has been named BIG EAST Specialist of the Week, while attackman Brian Kelly was tabbed to the conference's weekly honor roll, the conference office announced on Monday.
This is the first-career weekly honor for Lee as the sophomore becomes the first Johnnie to win Specialist of the Week, while Kelly earns a spot on the honor roll for the third time in his career. The senior attackman has been named the BIG EAST's Offensive Player of the Week twice this season.
Lee tied his career-best with three caused turnovers to go along with a team-high four groundballs on Saturday in the Red Storm's 13-11 win over Hobart in Ridgefield, Conn. His defensive efforts were key in helping St. John's hold the Statesmen scoreless for the first 13 minutes of the third quarter. On the season, Lee is second on the team with 15 caused turnovers and is third on the Red Storm with 23 groundballs.
Through 10 games this season, the Oakville, Ontario native is third in the conference with 1.5 forced giveaways per game.
Kelly followed up his career-best nine-point outing from last weekend with a three-score, four-assist performance on Saturday against Hobart. The senior attackman has three four-goal games this season and four contests with at least five points. The seven points on Saturday moves Kelly into third place on the program's all-time scoring list with 181 career points. The Red Hook, N.Y., native has found the back of the net in 13 consecutive games and has eclipsed the 40-point mark for the fourth time in his career.
Kelly's seven points over the weekend put him atop the BIG EAST leaderboard and ranks him 18th in the country with 4.5 points per game. He is also second in the conference with 2.0 helpers each contest and third in the BIG EAST with 2.5 goals per game.
The Johnnies will look to make it three-straight wins this weekend when they travel to Milwaukee, Wisc., to open BIG EAST play against Marquette. Faceoff from Valley Fields is set for 12 p.m. (ET).
