St. John’s Shoots 3-Under in Opening Round at GolfWeek Spring Challenge

Three Red Storm golfers sit inside top-20 after opening round
PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – The St. John's men's golf team finished strong in the opening round of the GolfWeek Spring Challenge on Monday finishing with a 3-under. 285, in Pawley's Island, S.C.
Over this final four holes at True Blue Golf Club, the Red Storm shot 5-under par as a team to make a late charge up the leaderboard, tying for eighth place in the 17-team field.
A three-time medalist winner this season, Peicheng Chen turned in another stellar round on Monday shooting 3-under, 69, to tie for ninth place in the 93-player field. The senior went low down the stretch posting an eagle on the 15th hole and a birdie on the 17th to shoot 3-under over the last four holes. The Beijing, China native was one of six players to record an eagle during the first 18 holes and shot a 4-under, 32 on the back nine.
Joseph Dolezal recorded a 2-under, 70, firing in a team-best five birdies to sit tied for 19th place. David Mlynek is also knotted for 19th after logging a 2-under, 70. The junior logged a 3.63 stroke average on par 4's, the fourth best mark amongst the field.
The Johnnies will be back in action for the second of three rounds in South Carolina tomorrow morning. Live results will be live throughout the event on GolfStat.
