St. John’s Records Lowest Single-Round Score in 18 Years at GolfWeek Spring Challenge

Red Storm card 13-under, 275, lowest score to par since 2007
PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – The St. John's men's golf team fired its best single-round score in nearly two decades on Tuesday, shooting a 13-under, 275, at the GolfWeek Spring Challenge.
All five players in the Johnnies' line-up shot even par or lower as the 13-under marked the lowest round to par since the opening round of the Treasure Coast Classic shooting a 19-under, 269, on March 8, 2007.
The Red Storm skyrocketed up the leaderboard sliding six spots from eighth place to second with a cumulative team score of 16-under, 560, through 36 holes at TrueBlue Golf Club in Pawley's Island, S.C. The Johnnies sit just three strokes behind Jacksonville State, who holds the tournament lead with a 19-under, 557.
Frank Wu shined with the best round of his young collegiate career on Tuesday. The freshman recorded six birdies in a bogey-free second round to log a 6-under, 66, to move up 54 spots into 23rd place. The China native now sits at 2-under, 142, with 18 holes to play and his performance marks the lowest round to par this season.
David Mlynek also had a strong day on the links firing off a 3-under, 69, finishing the day with four birdies and one bogey. The junior checks in tied for eighth overall with a 5-under, 139, through two rounds.
After a stellar finish to the opening round, Peicheng Chen continue to impress on Tuesday registering a 2-under, 70. The senior is tied with Mlynek for the eighth place in the 93-golfer field posting a 5-under, 139.
Brandon Sperling was the fourth Johnnie to shoot 2-under or lower in the Palmetto State, ending the day with a 2-under, 70. Joseph Dolezal notched an even par 72 and checks in tied with Wu for 23rd place overall.
The Red Storm will look to build off Tuesday's historic second round over the final 18 holes, beginning tomorrow morning for Pawley's Island. Live results will be available on GolfStat.
