St. John’s Rides Six-Game Winning Streak Into Northern Florida

The Red Storm have won 10 of its last 11 contests heading into this weekend
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team is set to wrap up its spring break trip by playing five games in Northern Florida from Thursday to Saturday.
The Red Storm will kick off the action on Thursday by taking on Mercer at 3 p.m. and Jacksonville at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Johnnies will head to North Florida's campus to face Army at 11:30 a.m. before battling UNF at 4:30 p.m. Play will conclude against Mercer at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the UNF Softball Complex.
Friday's contest with North Florida will be streamed on ESPN+. Live Stats for all games will be provided on RedStormSports.com.
The Johnnies enter the weekend on a six-game win streak and have won 10 of their last 11 contests to produce a record of 12-7-1. The winning streak matches the squad's longest from last season, which stretched across six games from March 26 to April 6.
The St. John's pitching staff has been lighting it up, ranking second in all of Division I with 9.55 strikeouts per seven innings. Juniors Loreley Francia and Ana Serafinko lead the staff, combining for 162 of the team's 181 punchouts. Serafinko's 85 strikeouts lead the BIG EAST and are tied for fourth nationally, while Francia's 77 punchouts are second in the conference and tied for 12th in the country.
On Monday, Francia was named BIG EAST Co-Pitcher of the Week after picking up three wins and allowing just two earned runs across 13 innings while striking out 23 batters at the Kennesaw State Tournament. The Spring, Texas product kicked off the tournament by recording a run-rule no-hitter against Rider, striking out 12 across five hitless innings. Francia became the first St. John's player in program history to win the conference's Pitcher of the Week after being awarded it on Feb. 24 following Winthrop's Garnet and Gold Tournament.
Serafinko continued to impress inside the circle as well, earning a pair of victories and punching out 31 batters in 15.1 innings during the squad's time in Georgia. The left-hander now has four victories and has maintained a 2.76 ERA in 53.1 innings this season.
London Jarrard was named BIG EAST Player of the Week after leading the charge on offense this past weekend. The shortstop went 8-for-15 (.533) with six doubles and seven RBIs to earn the first Player of the Week nod of her illustrious career. Jarrard leads the conference with eight doubles and 22 RBIs while her .406 average ranks third.
Jess Bianco, Cassidy Stouffer, Elanna Lysiak and Serafinko all batted over .400 this past weekend. Bianco notched six stolen bases and came around to score six times, while the other three combined for four home runs, four doubles and 14 RBIs. St. John's is now batting .299 with 10 home runs and 98 runs scored as a team this season.
The Red Storm will kick off action and end play with Mercer on Thursday and Saturday. The Bears are 11-9 to begin the season after most recently taking down Bethune Cookman, 10-4. 2024 First-Team All-Southern selection Tori Hedgecock leads Mercer, batting .436 with five home runs and 17 RBIs.

The Johnnies will then take on Jacksonville for the first time ever on Thursday. The Dolphins are 11-7 to open 2025 after finishing with a 26-25 mark last year. Skylar Waggoner leads Jacksonville inside the circle, boasting a 1.54 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 36.1 innings pitched this season.
Play will continue on Friday when St. John's faces Army. The Black Knights begin the weekend with an 8-7 record after participating in the Mardi Gras Mambo last weekend, going 3-2 with wins over Grambling State, Houston Christian and Southern. Junior Ashton Whit has been a standout for Army, batting .396 with a homer and nine RBIs.
The Red Storm has dominated the all-time series with the Black Knight, holding a 14-1 record. The two programs met towards the end of last season for a doubleheader at West Point, with the Johnnies coming out on top in both contests behind a pair of strong pitching performances by Francia and Serafinko.
St. John's will then take on UNF who has begun the season with an impressive 18-6 record. The Ospreys are led by senior Allison Benning who is hitting .483 and has recorded 10 home runs and 28 RBIs already this season.
The two programs will meet for the second time ever this weekend. UNF came out on top in the lone contest back in 2006 by a score of 3-0.
Following this weekend, St. John's will look ahead to opening play at Red Storm Field in Queens on March 12 against Iona.
