Eight Johnnies Named to the All-BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Team

The Red Storm found the podium in eight events
NEW YORK – After a third-place finish at the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships last weekend, the St. John's track & field team had eight members selected to the All-BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Team, as announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon.
With its eight All-BIG EAST selections this season, the Red Storm has now earned six or more nods for the third consecutive year. The eight selections mark the most since the 2017 season when the same amount was named to the all-conference team.
Jamora Alves lands on the Indoor All-BIG EAST Track & Field Team for the second time in her career, after earning her second gold medal in the indoor shot put. The Grenada native produced a school record toss of 15.69 meters, beating out Neni Davis' heave of 15.67 meters from the 1982 Princeton Relays to notch a gold medal last weekend.
Nora Haugen earned her third indoor all-conference recognition after nabbing a silver medal in the 800-meter run, breaking her own school record of 2:05.87 for the second time this season with a 2:04.64 finish. The junior from Norway also earned a gold medal in the 4x400-meter relay.
Cassandra Lemus-Sodji received the second indoor all-conference selection of her career after medaling in the long jump and 60-meter dash. The junior ran a personal-best 7.50 seconds in the 60-meter dash, placing second in the league. The junior also took home a bronze medal in the long jump for the second-straight season, producing a major career-best leap of 6.00 meters for third place.
Danella Dawkins tallied her first BIG EAST All-Conference Team nod after registering a bronze medal in the 60-meter hurdles. The graduate student sprinted across the track in a personal-record 6.69 seconds for a bronze medal.
Juliet Smith notched the first podium finish of her collegiate career last Friday, en route to a spot on the indoor all-league team. The sophomore picked up bronze medal in the weight throw, producing a massive personal-best heave of 16.95 meters for third place.
Chinenye Onuorah earned her third All-BIG EAST accolade after placing third in the 400-meter dash and first in the 4x400-meter relay. The junior garnered a bronze medal in the race with a 53.97-second finish.
The Red Storm's relay squad of Onuorah, Jalen Jackson, Maddie Kelso-Heap and Haugen dominated the 4x400-meter relay in 3:40.80 to earn their spots on the All-BIG EAST Team. Jackson and Kelso-Heap found themselves on the indoor all-conference team for the first time in their careers.
St. John's will be back in action to kick off its outdoor track & field season at the USF Alumni Invitational on Friday, March 21 in Tampa, Fla.
